Why we all should take some ‘time out’

With the current pandemic, one thing we have all faced is growing pressure to manage multiple roles simultaneously. Whether it is working from home, home-schooling or managing your household, now, more than ever, we need to take some time out and show some love to ourselves and our mental health.

Statistics have shown that the fear of covid, isolation, loneliness and pressure to manage financial worries have all contributed to a rise in anxiety and mental health issues. 69% of adults surveyed have stated that they are feeling somewhat or very worried about the effect of Covid-19 with 56% reporting feeling stressed or anxious. If this sounds familiar, rest assured, you are not alone.

At TLYC, we’re strong advocates for taking care of oneself and others around you. Our brand ethos is centred around ‘loving yourself’ and giving yourself time and appreciation to know that you can manage, you can succeed and you are deserving. With this in mind, we wanted to share some of our tips on how you can take that much needed ‘time-out’.

Soak those worries away

Who doesn’t love a good old soak in a luxurious bubble bath, we know we do! Take a leaf out of Stacey Solomons book and treat yourself to an extra long soak. Get those candles lit, get the bath bubbling and give yourself an extra few minutes to enjoy the peace and quiet. Using scents such as lavender or chamomile will help those shoulders relax whilst also ease your mind. After all, many traditional cultures believe in the healing properties of water and if it’s good for them, it’s good for us!

Giving thanks – forget the swear the jar!

Now who hasn’t tried a swear jar before? A pound for every time you use a profanity? Using this method, try a ‘gratitude jar’ instead. Every day, promise yourself that you and your family will give gratitude for whatever comes your way, whether it is saying thanks for the delicious banana bread you baked or thanks for the local park and the entertainment it provides to your kids. We have all got something to be thankful for and a daily reminder will help root you and aid mindfulness.

Those boots were made for walking

Obviously, when we say take a walk, we mean, take a walk with the government guidelines in mind! As it stands, walking is all we’re actually able to do at the moment so why not make the most of it! Usually, we get so engrossed with the task at hand, or in some cases, making sure the kids don’t run off. Sometimes we may not even look up from our phones! With all this in mind, why not try a different route? Check your local council website for walking trails and make it a fun activity to do. Little tip, look up now and again. You may be surprised with what you see.

The above are simply some of our favourite things to do when we need a little pick-me-up and take some time out.

We encourage you all to take a little time out and show yourself some love and care. We all need TLYC, especially these days.
